Memorial Day

For the first time in history First Congregational UCC will join in the Ironton, OH Memorial Day Parade. This is one of the largest parades of its kind in the country and is sure to be a fun yet moving experience for all involved. Everyone is invited to join us – see details below.

Our designated area to lineup is Buckhorn Street between 6th & 8th streets. It is urged that we be at our designated lineup area between 8:30 & 9 am (specifically our float), those walking and riding can show up later yet they need to be aware that many streets are shutdown and it gets very crowded. They anticipate nearly 3,000 participants or more and several thousand spectators.

The parade route begins at the corner of 4th & Center Streets on the side of the Lawrence County Courthouse; it will process down Center to 3rd street. From 3rd we will take a left onto Quincy (near Bob Clyse car dealership). From Quincy we will take another left onto 6th street and head back toward center street. The parade route officially ends at Park Avenue the main street in town.

The parade officially begins at 10 am typically with a flyover and to process the entire route will be about 2hrs.  Everyone participating on the float or walking is encouraged to wear a yellow or blue First Church shirt.

The theme this year is “For God and Country” and there will be a decorating party at Tandy Fierbaugh’s at 2pm on Sunday, May 27.
