Kids’ Church

Kids Church

The new generation of First Congregational United Church of Christ’s Kids Church started in August 2010. Our church had been without a children’s ministry – or children, for that matter – for some time before. Once our church began its rapid growth, we were blessed with the arrival of several young folks. The quote from Field of Dreams goes, “build it, and they will come”; in this case, they’d arrived before we’d even built it!

At Kids Church, we want to make learning about God’s Kingdom fun. We have lessons, crafts, snacks, songs, and games. We strive to make an inclusive environment for every child, regardless of age, race, gender, or disability. Therefore, we’re happy to provide any accommodations needed: if anything is making our Kids Church inaccessible to any child, please let us know and we will fix it.

The Kid’s Church ministry is headed by David and Alexis Smith. David and Alexis both have experience working in the childcare industry in West Virginia and were 2009 graduates of Marshall University. David is a filmmaker and president of the West Virginia Filmmakers Guild. Alexis is a jack of all trades who enjoys filmmaking, playing piano, and creating art pieces from junk. The Smiths like going to concerts, weird comedy, cheesy movies, and attending to the very pampered needs of their chihuahua Tinydog.
